Our Mission

Our mission is to provide opportunities for refugees to thrive by raising awareness, removing obstacles and restoring relationships.

At Dwell Mobile, we believe a fundamental cause of poverty is broken relationships. Therefore, holistic solutions to poverty include empowering people to restore those relationships. The relationships fall into four realms: relationship with God, relationship with institutions and structures, relationship with others, and relationship with the environment. Any or all of these may be broken at any given time. We work on an individual and program level to help people to restore relationships in these areas.

Dwell Mobile focuses on four major areas to help restore relationships:

Developing Youth
Workforce Development
Establishing Community Wellness
Learning Life Skills

Developing Youth

Often, when people flee their home, they are leaving to give their children a better life. Yet, when they arrive in America they find that they are not equipped to navigate the school system, or even help their children with their homework. Dwell Mobile values young people who are growing up in a culture entirely different from their own. The Youth Tract of our Foundations Program leads children in art projects and discussions that assist them in acclimating to a new culture. Tutoring and homework help are also available in this program.

Workforce Development

Resume Building and Interview Preparation: Dwell Mobile assists clients on an individual basis with writing resumes and interview skills. To request help, contact us: dwell@dwellmobile.org

Establishing Community Wellness

Community Awareness: Dwell Mobile offers resources and training to community groups to help Mobile welcome the stranger and appreciate (enjoy) the diversity of our city. To learn more, contact Jeri at jeri@dwellmobile.org

Community Connections: Dwell Mobile connects people who have arrived as refugees to community services and activities to help them thrive here and enjoy all Mobile has to offer.

Learning Life Skills

Foundations Program: Dwell Mobile’s Foundations Program aids participants in building strong foundations from which to start life in America by focusing on relationships, knowledge, skills, and attitudes — the foundations of dwelling anywhere. Both the program curriculum and structure are essential to empower participants toward self-sufficiency. Participants choose one of four focus areas, including English, citizenship, driving and GED prep.
