On the Current Immigration Landscape

The U.S. immigration system is widely considered one of the most complex and difficult-to-navigate areas of government. Rather than operating as a cohesive, clearly structured system, it has evolved over time. Today, it functions as a patchwork of policies, authorities, and processes. The result is significant uncertainty, expense, and time required to navigate it—along with widespread misunderstanding of immigrants among the American public. Even when accurate information is available, it can be difficult to interpret and apply.

I do not claim to fully understand the entire system. However, through Dwell’s work, I have had the opportunity to learn about key aspects of it as we seek to welcome and serve newcomers to the United States. Because changes in immigration policy can have a profound impact on our clients’ wellbeing and livelihoods, we follow these developments closely and have adjusted some of our services to better support those we serve.

In the midst of ongoing uncertainty, we are reminded that our call remains the same: to welcome the stranger and to care for those who are particularly vulnerable. At Dwell, we are actively adapting our programs in response to these changes, seeking to provide steady, thoughtful support in an increasingly complex environment. At the same time, we recognize that we cannot do this work alone.

We are deeply grateful for your continued support. Your generosity and engagement make it possible for us to respond with both consistency and compassion. Thank you for standing with us, and with our refugee and immigrant neighbors, during this critical time.

Warmly,

Jeri Stroade
